Shaken Not Stirred

Five decades of James Bond action and music

Bond. James Bond. Those three words conjure up 50 years of imagery and music.  Action, fast cars, cool gadgets, eccentric villains, exotic destinations, iconic songs, beautiful women, and vodka martinis (shaken not stirred).

Bond Car

The best Bond was Sean Connery of course, but others have their favorites: Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig or even David Niven.  Yes, Niven played Bond in 1967.  He was chosen to play in the spoof  of “Casino Royale”.

Which ever Bond actors or movies you liked best, one thing is certain.  James Bond has been part of pop culture in the States and across the pond for over 60 years. And the Bond legacy continues. On November 9th, 2012, Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film in the franchise will be released in the US.  Skyfall will be the third film to star Daniel Craig as 007 and the first Bond film released in IMAX.

Since November is a several months away (as I write), this summer would be a great time to watch some of those classic Bond flicks that you might not have seen for a long time.  You will also want to add Bond theme songs to your music collection on iTunes.

To get you in the mood, play the James Bond theme song as you read on. It  debuted in 1962 movie, Dr. No, starring Sean Connery.

Long Runs and Empty Pockets

With summer here and the Olympics on the horizon, everyone seems to be digging out their sneakers, ready to do an enormously long run all in the aid of a charitable cause (and to shed their winter coat of course!) Oh yes, and then there’s the more daring types who like to push the boat out and do something crazy and outrageous to raise some cash, such as shaving their heads, or jumping out of a plane!

Now we all know that these acts of kindness (or insanity) come with the daunting task of asking friends and family to dig deep into their pockets and sponsor you. There is nothing more disheartening than the moment your Great Auntie Beatrice pulls a button and a bit of fluff out from her rather poor pockets, and gives you a ‘Will this do?’ expression… and lets face it, you’re going to see that expression a lot.

Well, wouldn’t it be great if you could ask for something else… something that wouldn’t put a strain on a person’s weekly shop. Oh and something that would almost be a favor to have you take off their hands.

So here’s how you’d pitch it… ‘Hey, I’m running a marathon soon, and wondered if I could de clutter your house?’ – okay, so maybe you’d have to explain a little more than that, about how you need DVDs CDs and Games as a donation rather than money, but doesn’t that sound like a good deal?

Use Zumu to its full potential and make some cash for your ‘good cause’ by trading everyone else’s preloved items! You’re bound to get a lot more interest (and money) by taking these items off their hands.

Five years ago in the United States, more than 100,000 pounds of CDs became outdated, useless or unwanted every month.  Every year, more than five million software packages (CDs, DVDs and Video Games) go to landfills and incinerators.  Unfortunately, CDs, DVDs and Video Games are made from materials including polycarbonate plastic, petroleum-based lacquer and paints, aluminum and other metals.  These materials, upon destruction, are notorious for releasing chemicals that contribute to environmental and health problems.

The chemical used in jewel cases, polyvinyl chloride, is especially damaging to the environment.  It often contains additives making it one of the least recyclable, and least recycled, of the major plastics. The EPA estimates that less than one percent of all post-consumer polyvinyl chloride is recovered or reprocessed.  In other words, as of 2007, 99% of PVC produced ends up in landfills or is incinerated, releasing dangerous dioxins into the air.

Fast-forward by five years and the problem of disc disposal is bigger than ever with more movies, music and games being thrown away every year.  If anything, the rate at which these marvels of technology are becoming obsolete continues to increase as consumer move their collections from physical to digital formats.  Fortunately, consumers have more options than ever before when it comes to recycling their old discs.

At the top of the list is the practice of reuse and recycling.  The robust shelf-life of discs provides the consumer with the option of ‘re-homing’ their discs by passing them on to other people to enjoy.  There are more re-use options available than ever before and consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need for a landfill alternative.

Whether it’s a person interested in re-homing their discs or someone who has products that have been ‘over-loved’ and need to be responsibly recycled, there are more options than ever before.  Now it’s just a matter of making people aware of those options.  Of course, we have a point of view!

Tooth Fairies and Finger Paints

Start of the summer, means time to de-clutter!

So the weather has jumped up a couple of notches and Memorial Day is fast approaching, which can only mean one thing… Summer is here!!!

As we dig out our white shoes and favorite summer dresses, we prepare ourselves for a busy time ahead of family, fun, food and sun!

It’s always a good time round about now, to have a good old clear out! Just in time for the kids to finish for summer break, because let’s face it, it’s only a matter of time before you hear the dreaded words ‘Mom, where’s the finger paints?’

Besides, what harm can a bit of a clear out do, when you have the option to get cash for your clutter!

Like the Tooth fairy, we will trade your unwanted items for some extra cash… Just to note, we don’t trade your teeth for cash, we can only accept DVDs CDs and Games (for now anyway)!

This extra cash may come in handy over the summer to keep your kids entertained, otherwise they’ll only entertain themselves…

Mugs and Mirrors

We all have our curious moments in life, such as wondering how many grapes you can fit into your mouth in one go… just us then!? Well here at Zumu, we were curious to find out what you guys did with the boxes of preloved DVDs CDs and Games before we arived on planet earth, and this is what we found…Image

I suppose this is a good idea if you cant afford a mirror. Although, with that many CDs, this person could definitely afford to buy a mirror if he used Zumu! Hey, he could even afford to buy 100 tiny mirrors to make one large mirror…

Anyway, enough about mirrors, here’s another use we found for CDs…

Yes. Thats right… a coaster for your cup of coffee. We’ve all done it at some point in our lives. But fear not, we are here to rescue the poor and misused ‘Pop Party Classics’ CD from under your mug, and with the cash we give you, we are sure you’ll find a more suitable replacement.

And so we leave you with this thought: ‘A CD is for life, and not just for Christmas’… Unless of course you’re sick of it cluttering up your shelf (or wall), and in that very likely scenario, we will take it off your hands!

Room of Random

So as we’re new in town, it was only necessary to get some new ‘headquarters’, or what we like to call ‘The Land of Zumu’. Our new base is situated perfectly in the home of Motown – Detroit, MI. Now obviously all in all, setting up Zumu has been a long and winding road, and getting exactly what we want in the first stretch was always unlikely. However, The Land of Zumu is taking shape rapidly and already has a couple of funky features.

Take these brightly colored square rugs for example… Not only are they brightly colored, but there are endless possibilities for the positioning of the rugs. I think we can agree that ‘funky’ is a suitable word to describe them.

And how about this ‘grassy area’? Well we’d be mad if we didn’t have grass for floor… after all, this is The Land of Zumu!

Now obviously at this point, there are bound to be some areas which are a little less ‘spruced up’, but like we said, it’s a working progress. Oh and yes, there are some car seats in the middle of the floor… but all for a good (you could even say great) reason. Bring on the very first Zumu ‘Room of Random’, where we will feature these car seats, a church pew and many more wonderful and ‘sittable’ objects.

Preloved to Reloved

Here at Zumu, we’re big fans of all things good! Good music, good movies, good games, but most of all good causes, which is why we’re happy to help when it comes to fundraising!

Our plan is to get involved with as many clubs and non-profit organizations as we possible can to help raise money for them. We have a fun and exciting brand, a great range of ‘fun stuff’ to give out, and a really simple way to raise some cash!

All the clubs and non-profit organizations have to do is get everyone they know to bring in some ‘preloved’ DVDs, CDs and Games and in exchange, we will give them some cash!

If you’re a club or non-profit organization in need of something you cant afford, get in contact with us at and we will be sure to help you out!

New boys in town!

Greetings! We would like to start by saying we’re very glad to be here, in this splendid town, and we hope that as a company, we can provide you with a service like no other!

If you don’t already know, Zumu is an online trading platform for the public (yes you) to use to make some cash! It’s so easy! You know that old Price album that’s been sat on your desk, acting as a coaster for your coffee cup for the past year… Well we can take that off your hands in exchange for some cash!

But fear not, as that’s not the end for your favorite coaster, in fact it’s a new beginning! Zumu recycles 100% of all items we collect through the website, whether it be sold to Prince’s number 1 fan to be played over and over again or its magically turned into something new!

All you need to do is search around for some DVDs, CDs and Games (check behind the sofa), and enter the barcodes into our site. In just 3 easy steps, you could have enough money for your weekly shop… Hey, you could even buy yourself a new coaster!
